Hey Church,
I updated the reading list a little early this week. You can read it on the blog.
For some reason, the website we link the passages to stopped making the Today's New International Version (TNIV) availble. So, for this week, the links will be to the New International Version (NIV). The difference should be minimal!
Thanks!

Garage / Yard Sale Reminder
Good morning church,
I want to give you a quick reminder about the garage sale tomorow. We're hoping to raise some money for the church and the youth group.
If you have any other stuff you would like to donate to the yard sale, bring it by the church this evening and someone will be there to help. Everything needs to be priced already (whatever you think is fair).
Also, we could use help in the morning. There will be a few people there early (6am) to set up, and they could probably use some help. But if you can stop by anytime to help out, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Jason

Shower Sunday
Don't forget the shower for Wesley and Barbara this Sunday (the 25th) after the service. Wesley and Barbara are still fairly new to our church, but have quickly become an important part of who we are. We are asking people to bring main dishes, drinks, and desserts. Contact Stacie at starodenbeck@gmail.com to find out what you can bring.
Thanks!

Service Directory
Hey everyone,
We mentioned this in the announcements this Sunday, but a lot of people were out traveling and such this weekend and couldn't hear it.
One of the ideas we talked about at the last Servant-leader meeting was putting together a directory of services available at our church. This is so we can make available to our church members anyone who runs a business or has a skill they use (i.e.: mechanics, plumbing, etc.). This will better enable us to support one another in our family.
If you would like to be involved, please contact Larry Campbell at larrycsales@aol.com. The best thing to do is bring a business card on Sunday and give it to Larry. This gives all the informaiton necessary.
Thanks!

Politics Discussions
Hey everyone,
We finished part 2 of our short Tuesday series on Christianity and politics. A handout of the presentation we went over is available here.
Thanks to all who came out and got involved in this discussion. We'll go back to doing Hebrews next Tuesday.
If there are other issues you'd like to discuss in future Tuesdays, let me know and it is possible we could schedule breaks from Hebrews to attack those issues.
Thanks!

Bible Reading and Political Stuff
Hey everyone,
I'm way behind on the Bible reading, I had a rough Sunday afternoon (when I normally update the list). I need to know if the Bible reading schedule is still benefitting anyone, so I've put a survey on the blog. Please fill it out so I can see if doing the Bible reading schedule is working for anyone.
Also, don't forget that our second part of our political discussion will be taking place Tuesday. We'll be doing a lot more scripture and trying to understand the Christian position on how to be involved in culture and how to rise above it! See the post below formore details.
Thanks,
Jason

Tuesday Night Political Discussions
Hey gang,
Last Tuesday several people came and participated in a discussion about the relationship of Christianity and American politics. The discussion was well-handled by all--even considering how many of us come from vastly different viewpoints on the topic.
I thought I'd make available a pdf of the presentation we went over this last Tuesday. To view it click here. Besides the discussion and presentation, we also watched an interview of Dr. Gregory A. Boyd. To view this interview in its three parts, you can visit my personal blog "Approaching the Abyss." You can click the videos on the right.
Also, don't forget about the Chili-cook-off and movie night Saturday night. See the post below for more details.

Chili Cook-Off
Hey all,
Dennis asked me to get this info out to you.
Saturday, May 10, is our "Chili Cook-Off." It begins at 6 PM. The church will provide cheese and crackers. Please bring your own drinks. We need a few good men at 5:30 to set up tables. Movie will start around 7 PM. This is our first Chili Cook-Off, so please enjoy the offerings. Janet Otts is providing the movie.
Also, don't forget about the special we'll be doing this evening. We're taking a two-week break from Hebrews to discuss issues relating to Christianity and its relationship with politics.
Thanks,
Jason

Intern
Castle Christians:
Jason
I am very happy to tell you about a friend of ours who is coming to stay with us this summer. His name is Kyle Stock. He is someone our family was close to when we were in Missouri and he is graduating from college.
He is coming because he needs to do an official internship. He asked if he could do it with me at Castle, and we were very happy to have him do it. He is coming with some of his own funds and support, and is willing to get a part-time job if need be, so he will not be a financial burden to the church.
I think our church will benefit from his energy and his faith and he will benefit from getting to know a really great group of Christians. I'm including a picture of him in this post. He isn't exactly looking at the camera, but I think the picture captures a little of his personality. I look forward to what he can do with us and how we can help him out.
Currently, I'm working on a few projects for Kyle. If you have any ideas, please let me know. I'll be picking him up this month, near the end of the month. So, you'll be meeting him very soon! As we grow, I look forward to working with more students like Kyle who will come to our church to get their feet wet and learn more about how to minister to God's people. Believe it or not, you all have taught me more about a healthy church than I ever learned in my education. I believe Kyle will benefit greatly from knowing you!
Thanks,
Jason

Special Tuesdays
Hey everyone,
I just wanted to follow up on the announcement I made before the message today about Tuesday nights. Because of a few recent conversations I've had with different members of the church, I thought it might be a neat idea to spend two weeks in the Tuesday night Bible study discussing the relationship of Christianity and the government or Chrisitanity and politics. Inherent in that discussion is the relationship of Christianity and violence.
No doubt we will have different people with different thoughts and different ideas about these things. My goal is to discuss the issues and present another perspective that is not often promoted among conservative evangelical, or "mainstream," churches.
Anyhow, if you are interested in this discussion or possibly haven't made up your mind how to think about these things, please feel free to attend these next two weeks. The study starts at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesdays. We usually run until 8:00, sometimes a little later. I assume the discussion will be lively enough that we could talk all night, but we'll make sure to cut it off with enough time to get everyone in bed at the appropriate time!
ALSO, the reading list is upated on the blog.
Thanks,
Jason

Dick Richardson Update
Hey everyone,
Got an update from Doris. I'll just paste the message here:
Hey! The Doctor just now called with the test results and said it is Prostate cancer. They will continue with the Lupron shots and Flutamide pills and closely monitor it and said he won't have to take Chemo. Praise God.Thank you all for your prayers. Doris
Let's keep the prayers up for the Richardsons and make sure we're encouraging them.
Thanks!
