Barbara's birthday

We'll try again this Sunday to celebrate Barbara's 85th birthday. Here's the info from an earlier post:

Barbara's birthday

Hi all,

I was assured Barbara would not see this post as she has no computer. This is to be a surprise. It was decided after last week's service that this coming Sunday (07/19/2015) we would celebrate Barbara Chapman's birthday. There will be cake and you will have an opportunity to give Barbara a birthday card. IF AND ONLY IF you want to give her a gift, the following was proposed:

Gift card from any of these places that she frequents:

Publix
Kroger
Walmart
Applebee's
O'Charlie's
Rice (Chinese resturant off exit 17 at the Publix shopping center on highway 306 and 369)

There will be a basket into which you can drop your birthday card and/or gift card and we will present it to her as a church. So if you want your gift card to be anonymous that is fine. The gift cards will be put altogether as one gift from the church. OR you may, if you want, sign your gift card so she knows it comes from you.

Please understand you do not HAVE to get her a gift card or even a birthday card....only if you want to. Everyone just felt it appropriate to recognize her birthday at church.

See you Sunday

Important update

We just got word that Barbara is sick and will not be at church tomorrow. We'll have to postpone her birthday recognition until next Sunday. A post later in the week will let you know for sure when we will plan on the celebration.

Immediate prayer request

Ben's friend asked that we get the word out to support this family in crisis.

Colton Norrel, a 3 month old child, is in the hospital with fluid on the brain caused by a brain tumor. Needless to say, his family is devastated. Please pray for this little guy and all the people dedicated to his treatment (family, doctors, nurses and technicians).

Church fun

Just a reminder of a few things:

  1. This is the last Sunday to bring in school supplies for the children in Haiti. For those of you that may not know, Cathy Schmidle goes every year with a group to help out in an orphanage there. We will be collecting more items in the coming months for this mission.
  2. We will be collecting donations for the "Bags of Love" program during the month of July. This mission takes lunches to the children in our county that were on free or reduced lunch. Now that school is out this program intends to fill in the gap. If you'd like to make a monetary donation, just indicate on your check how much is intended to go toward this program. If you'd like to help with the assemblage of the lunches themselves or even help making the deliveries, let Judy Ware know (404-434-8835) and she can guide you.
  3. We will have a guest pianist to lead us in hymns this Sunday. Please welcome Martha Vernon.
  4. The church picnic will be held this Sunday (6/14/2015) beginning at 12:00 pm. The gathering will take place at the home of Jim and Sandi Stahl - 7450 Bronson Way, Cumming (770-597-8237). The church will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, cups, plates, napkins, pastic-ware and drinks. You are asked to bring a side and Bill really, really, really wants you to bring a dessert. :) It would be a good idea to bring a chair as well.
See you on Sunday!
